Poaching Subs Isn't "Competition"—It's Just Scummy

Let's stop pretending this is a debate about ownership or free markets.

It isn't.

It's about respect.

No, submissives aren't property. They are adults with full autonomy, capable of making their own choices. They can leave a dynamic whenever they want. Nobody should ever argue otherwise.

But that's not what poaching is about.

Poaching is when you know someone is in an established dynamic and, instead of respecting it, you deliberately work behind another Dominant's back to pull that submissive away for your own benefit—whether that's money, attention, or ego.

That's not confidence.

That's not skill.

That's not dominance.

It's opportunism.

Respect Costs Nothing

If someone approaches you and you already know that they are owned, collared or in an exclusive D/s relationship, the decent response is simple:

"I respect your dynamic. If that ever changes, you're free to contact me."

That's professionalism.

Sliding into their DMs, encouraging secrecy, planting doubts, or promising a "better" Dominant isn't professionalism—it's interference.

If your success depends on undermining someone else's relationship instead of building your own, what does that say about you?

"They Have Agency" Isn't a Free Pass

The most common excuse is, "Well, the submissive chose to leave."

Of course they did. Adults make their own choices.

That doesn't erase your behavior.

If you knowingly encourage someone to violate commitments they've made, you're still responsible for your part in it.

Agency doesn't mean everyone else is suddenly free from basic standards of decency.

If It Has to Be Done in Secret...

Ask a simple question.

Why is the poaching almost always done privately?

Why not message the Dominant directly?

Why encourage hidden conversations?

Why ask someone to keep it quiet?

Because the person doing it usually knows exactly what they're doing.

People who are proud of their conduct don't need to hide it.

Stop Hiding Behind "The Free Market"

Another excuse is that findom is just a business and competition is healthy.

Healthy competition is creating better content, offering a better experience, or attracting people who are genuinely looking for a new dynamic.

Healthy competition is not targeting someone you already know has committed themselves elsewhere.

A gym doesn't prove it's better by trying to recruit members during another gym's private classes.

A professional doesn't build a reputation by encouraging clients to secretly break existing agreements.

Calling it "competition" doesn't make it respectable. It just makes it sound like profit matters more than integrity.

Your Reputation Is Worth More Than One Sub

BDSM runs on trust.

Findom runs on reputation.

The Dominants who last aren't the ones constantly chasing someone else's submissives. They're the ones who build relationships strong enough that people come to them willingly on a daily basis.

Someone known for respecting boundaries earns respect.

Someone known for circling existing dynamics looking for opportunities earns something else entirely.

The Bottom Line

Nobody is saying submissives are property.

Nobody is saying people can't leave a dynamic.

The issue is much simpler than that.

If you knowingly go behind another Dominant's back to entice, manipulate, or recruit their submissive for your own gain, you're showing exactly what kind of person you are.

You aren't demonstrating dominance.

You aren't demonstrating confidence.

You're demonstrating that you'll ignore other people's boundaries whenever there's something in it for you.

You can dress that up with words like "agency," "competition," or "free market."

Most people will recognize it for what it really is:

A scumbag move.
